COMMUNICATION

At Group One Thoroughbreds we are industry leaders in communication. We have our full time Racing Manager, Jeremiah who is available via email and phone to answer any questions that you may have during your thoroughbreds career. Video, Photo and Audio Updates are provided weekly when your horse is in with the trainer. When the exciting time of your horse racing comes nominations, acceptances, pre-race trainers report, post-race jockey and trainers reports are sent through. In between that regular spelling and pre-training video updates are sent through, keeping you informed at all stages of your horse’s career. Our Racing Manager attends most Trials and Racedays in the Sydney Region, providing additional updates that stables don’t.

TRANSPARENCY

Transparency is a key part of our operations in all aspects of Group One Thoroughbreds. From the start to the end of your ownership journey we remain transparent with costs, ability and expectations of your horse. Horse Ownership has its highs and lows, with many horses not making the track due to injury, or not being successful when they do. We stay honest with owners and will recommend moving on horses who don’t meet the expectations set by our ownership group. Alternatively we relocate horses based on ability and will vote to move horses to easier racing jurisdictions that are more suitable for your thoroughbred to be competitive.

SELECTION

The selection and placement of our athletes is a major part of our success at Group One Thoroughbreds. The first step of purchasing our athletes is done at the office when the catalogues are released. We comb through the book looking at each lot and marking down Stallions, Pedigrees, Vendors etc that are of interest. We then head to the sales often inspecting 200+ horses a sale, judging each on conformation, temperament and action. We narrow down the shortlist over 3 different stages to finalise our Vet list. We send off this list to Dr Chris Lawler who looks over x-rays and scoping reports. We DO NOT buy horses that don’t have clean x-ray and scoping reports. Once the Vet’s are through we value each horse that has passed all steps of our process, we do not go over our set price as the more we pay the higher the cost for our owners. We are often left with a list of 10-20 which we will bid on through the ring. Once a purchase is made, we will identify which trainer best suits the horse and place it accordingly.
