A determined group of owners braved wet and blustery conditions at Rosehill Gardens yesterday and were rewarded with a performance to remember, as the progressive mare Considered claimed her first metropolitan victory and extended her winning streak to four in a row.

The occasion marked a milestone on multiple fronts. Not only was it Considered’s first success at city level, but it also coincided with apprentice Jett Newman’s very first race ride in Sydney, and she could not have made a better start.

Jumping sharply from barrier one, Considered positioned perfectly, settling into fifth throughout the middle stages of the race. She travelled sweetly under Jett, who remained patient as the field rounded the home bend with plenty of horse beneath her.

In the straight, the race momentarily became tricky as room was at a premium over the first 100 metres. Once a passage opened, Considered hesitated briefly before charging through the gap. In a matter of strides, she put the race beyond doubt, pulling clear late to score by a comfortable 0.8 lengths, eased down through the line.

The scenes in the mounting yard were just as special. Jett returned to a massive roar from a large and enthusiastic ownership group, supported by her father Mitch Newman, a former trainer and jockey, as well as her mother Debbie Greaves.

Trainer Mathew Dunn was understandably delighted with the performance and outlined an exciting plan moving forward.

“She was really dominant in the end. A really good win and she handled the track really, really well.
Our plan is to head to the Country Championship qualifier in the middle of February and hopefully we can run one-two there and progress through to the final six weeks later.”

With four straight wins on the board and a seamless transition to metropolitan grade, Considered continues to rise through the ranks. Attention now turns to the lucrative Country Championships pathway, where she looms as a genuine contender if she continues on this upward trajectory.
