Classy mare She’s Exotic continued her outstanding rise through the grades with a dominant victory in Sunday’s Bushgrove Cup at Grafton, taking her career record to an impressive seven wins from just ten starts.

The talented mare returned first-up after a successful previous campaign, which ended with a strong Saturday metropolitan victory at Doomben. Her lead-up trials suggested she had returned in top order, despite conditions on race day not expected to be in her favour.

Jumping cleanly from the gates, She’s Exotic settled in third position throughout the run and travelled comfortably under jockey Andrew Mallyon, who was able to give her an economical trip in transit.

Turning for home, Mallyon was held up for clear running over the early part of the straight, but once a gap appeared along the rails, the mare quickly surged through and put the race beyond doubt, scoring by a comfortable 1.69 lengths.

Group One Thoroughbreds Racing Manager Jeremiah Azzopardi praised both the performance and the placement from trainer Matt Dunn and his team.

“She was super on Sunday,” Azzopardi said. “She was extremely well placed by Matt and his team, being in a Country Benchmark race. While the placement may have looked soft, she still did it tough with the big weight, a dry track when she prefers some sting out of the ground, and she had nowhere to go from the 400m to the 200m.

“She is in for a great campaign.”

Purchased for just $30,000, She’s Exotic has now earned $167,575 in prizemoney and continues to prove a bargain buy with every preparation.
