We finished the month with a strong weekend on the track, with Brutal Miss saluting at the Gold Coast on Friday night before stable stalwart Social Outcast followed suit at Eagle Farm on Saturday.
After a couple of unlucky runs to begin her preparation, Brutal Miss bounced back in style on Friday night, producing a determined performance to get back into the winner’s circle.
The three-year-old filly jumped cleanly from the barriers, with Daniel Moor looking to be a touch more positive early without firing her up.
After settling a pair further back than ideal, she travelled well throughout the race and Daniel had plenty of horse underneath him heading into the straight. Once he was able to get clear air, Brutal Miss really began to eat into the margin and got there in the nick of time in a thrilling finish.
It was a strong ride from Daniel and another excellent training performance from Mathew Dunn and his team.
Having always shown plenty of ability at home, Brutal Miss looks to have further improvement to come and it was great to see her get back to the winner’s circle. There is plenty to look forward to with this mare and her owners.
The following day at Eagle Farm, our 7yo stable stalwart Social Outcast continued his excellent career record with another typically tough performance to record his seventh career victory.
Social hasn’t had things go his way to begin this preparation, but Matt remained confident the horse was going super heading into Saturday and we were confident he could bounce back.
Jumping well from a wide barrier, Anna Roper was positive early and had Social Outcast travelling beautifully just outside the leaders throughout the race.
Approaching the 600m, Anna did a great job of keeping him travelling through his customary flat spot before having him perfectly positioned to let down in the straight.
He is as tough as teak and once again dug deep when it mattered, putting paid to the leader to win by a solid 0.9 lengths.
It was a fantastic ride from Anna and another super training performance from Mathew Dunn and his team.
The victory took Social Outcast to seven career wins and over $180,000 in prizemoney for his owners from just a $30,000 purchase.
We also couldn’t leave Savvy Spy out of the weekend after he was super first up at Kembla Grange, finishing second and showing plenty of encouraging signs.
Group One Thoroughbreds Racing Manager Jeremiah Azzopardi was thrilled with the weekend’s results.
“Brutal Miss is a mare we’ve had a big opinion of for a while and she’s shown she was back on track on Friday night with a gritty effort. She really had to lift that last 50m and that she did.
“We then backed it up on Saturday with Social Outcast bouncing back to his best up in trip and with a more positive ride. Matt has been adamant the horse has been going well and that performance proved it. This horse is tough as teak.
“I can’t not mention Savvy Spy, who was super running second at Kembla Grange first up. The penny might finally be dropping for him and when it does, he is a horse going places.”
It was a great way to finish off the month, with two winners and a really encouraging run from Savvy Spy giving our owners plenty to look forward to heading into the next few weeks.
