Robbie rode successfully as a jockey before weight issues forced an early retirement, but he always knew his purpose in life was to succeed as a thoroughbred trainer. His unshakeable desire to succeed at the highest level as a trainer drove him through a long and sometimes difficult journey to the top of the sport, which has seen him feature in the top 10 of the Victorian Trainers' Premiership on numerous occasions.

Griffiths Racing has flourished thanks to the wonderful support of family, friends, staff and clients who have continued to back Robbie's vision for more than two decades. Born into the industry, Robbie rode for training greats such as the late Colin Hayes, Bart Cummings, Lee Freedman and other brilliant horsemen. This provided a strong grounding and helped him outride his claim within two years.

That experience proved to be an ideal springboard for the next phase of his career, beginning when he became stable foreman for Tony Vasil in 1991. After a year with Tony, Robbie travelled to Europe where he was able to observe some of the very best trainers first-hand and expand his knowledge even further. He applied that experience from the moment he gained his trainer's licence in 1991.
